The Railway Operates a number of Steam and Battery powered locomotives.
‘R.J Goulding’ is a Stafford class 0-4-0st steam locomotive built by Station Road Steam in Lincolnshire in 2013 and was our first steam locomotive.
‘Felicity’ is another Stafford class 0-4-0st steam locomotive built by Station Road Steam in 2012. Privately owned, Felicity came to us from the Saffron Walden & District Society of Model Engineers Picnic railway at Audley End along with two battery locomotives.
‘Number 14’, is a sit in battery locomotive, built by Ride on Railways in Romford, Number 14 has done some travelling about in its life. Built for the Ness Island Railway in Inverness, Scotland, the loco ran for a few seasons there until being sold to the Fenn Bell Miniature Railway in Kent. Sadly the railway closed after just 18 months of operation and was put into storage until the NWDMR purchased the entire Fenn Bell railway inculding N0.14, for use at the NWDMR site in Harlow.
Jenko, is a battery shunter outline locomotive, privately owned, Jenko came to us from the Lodge Farm Park Railway in Romford, and has played a big part in both hauling passengers and hauling engineering trains building the railway. Jenko was built in 2014 by Phoenix Locomotives of Southport.
Elektra, is a battery locomotive that also came to us from the late ‘Picnic Railway’ at Audley End and is owned by the Saffron Walden & District Society of Model Engineers. The locomotive was built by the SWDME and arrived at the NWDMR in October 2019.
Warship BR Class 42 ‘Pathfinder’, is a scale model of a British Railways class 42, otherwise known as ‘Warships’. This locomotive also ran at the Picnic Railway at Audley End, and when the line closed she was moved along with Elektra and Felicity to the NWDMR. Owned by the SWDSME the warship is an extremely powerful loco, perfect for the steep gradients of the NWMDR.
‘Bigfoot’, is an American switcher style battery locomotive, that came to us from the Epping Ongar Miniature Railway Group. The locomotive was built by the ‘scale locomotive company’ based in North Wales in 2018, it was operated by the EOMRG on their portable track at various events around Essex before arriving at the NWMDR in December 2019.
